CANADA, AUG 8 – Young workers lost 34,000 jobs as private sector declines offset gains in manufacturing and transportation, with 23.8% of unemployed in long-term joblessness, Statistics Canada reported.
- In July, Canada lost 41,000 jobs while the unemployment rate remained at 6.9%, Statistics Canada said.
- The economy lost 51,000 full-time positions last month, including 34,000 in youth aged 15 to 24, driven by U.S. tariff-related disruptions.
- The information, culture and recreation sector lost 29,000 jobs, while transportation and warehousing added 26,000 jobs, its first gain since January.
- Long-Term unemployment surged to its highest share since February 1998, with 23.8% of 1.6 million jobless in July in long-term searches.
