UN: Potential ‘crimes against humanity’ in China’s Xinjiang

Summary by Ground News
China’s detention of Uighurs and other mostly Muslim ethnic minorities in the northwestern region of Xinjiang may amount to “crimes against humanity”, the United Nations human rights office said in a long-delayed report that was finally published late on Wednesday. China denies all allegations of human rights abuses in Xinjiang. More than a million people are estimated to have been detained at camps. China says the crackdown is necessary to prevent terrorism and Islamist extremism.
